Bits of September

Here are some video clips of things we have been working on throughout September.

Another Awesome Week at School!

We have a party chart where we get checkmarks for good behaviour.  Mrs. Hosie promised that if we got twenty checkmarks, her dog Tucker could come visit.  Tucker is a three-year-old Brittany Spaniel.  We all got to take a turn petting Tucker.  Tucker is the best!

This week in gym we continued to work on soccer skills.  We learned proper passing involves using the inside of your foot, planting one foot, and following through with the other foot.  For long passes it is important to have some strength behind the pass.  We also played fun warm-up games in gym including Octopus and Catch the Dragon's Tail! We are learning important skills while having fun.

This week Mrs. Hosie started putting math challenges on the board.  We worked hard to solve the math problems and most of us were successful!  Then Mrs. Hosie had a draw for a free pizza and Nathen, MacKenzie, and Brooklyn won.  Those math questions were extremely hard.

Other things that happened this week:

- Kaylee won an early bird draw.
- Ryan was our student of the week.
- Alyx left for Disney World.
- The stomach flu is going around the school.
- We made beautiful watercolor paintings of leaves.
- We played a fun game called Oh Deer to learn about food chains.
- Emily's mom brought wheat and other crop samples from the farm.
- Mrs. Vermeulan taught us a few notes and how to respect and take care of our recorders.

Food Chains

We have been learning about food chains in Science.  Last week, students made their own food chains.  In this video clip students act out Logan's food chain.

This Week at School...

This week we got recorders from Mrs. V.  We are going to start learning some songs next week! Some of us are learning some of the basic notes.  We are excited to learn how to play recorders!

We had an assembly this week that talked about selling magazines.  If we sell a lot of magazines we can win prizes including, a mini fridge, a crying monkey, an armsy, an apple speaker, a mini laptop, a light up pen, a flying chicken and a chance at winning an apple ipad!  Jeff taught how to sell the magazines and showed us some symbols that stood for "wow mom that's excellent".  All those great prizes got us really really excited!!!

Some of us joined choir this week.  The teachers are Mrs. Kruger and Mrs. Brooks.  Mrs. Kruger is good at singing and Mrs. Brooks is good at piano.  They are both funny and nice.  We learned songs called "Flying Purple People Eater", and "The Clouds".  Our first performance will be at the UNICEF assembly.  We hope to practice hard so we can be on TV and sing songs for a festival.

We are starting to learn about soccer.  This week we practiced passing soccer balls together.  We used volleyballs and soccer balls so we had enough for everyone.  Some kids might still be passing with their toe, but we are working on passing with the inside of the foot.  Playing soccer is fun!

Karley was our student of the week! Her favourite colour is blue, she is interested in the planets in space, and she has a sister named Bailey.  Karley absolutely loves cheese pizza.  Karley is awesome!

First Week of School!

This week we went for a long walk on the tracks.  On our walk we saw a bunch of colorful flowers.  Each student in the class got to have their picture taken during the walk.  We also saw lots of crickets and other bugs.  Our walk on the tracks was fun!

We created colorful flowers using one line.  Some of us mixed colors to make new colors.  It was challenging to make only one line.  We used two different kinds of paints; water color, and tempera paint.  We lifted up our brush to make a thin line, and we pressed down on our brush to make a thick line.  Our paintings looked really beautiful when we were done.

We spent a lot of time getting organized this week.  We sorted through our supplies, we got our notebooks, we learned the rules, and we took home a lot of notes.  Now that we are organized we can have more time to do our schoolwork.

Some other things that people in the class were excited about:

- Grade threes were excited about getting new textbooks
- Playing dodge ball.
- Having gym time!
- Going on future field trips.
- Grade fours are at a new playground.
- Having two new teachers.
